Venezia, Inzaghi: "Milan are clear scudetto contenders"
Filippo Inzaghi, interviewed by Gianlucadimarzio.com at Venezia’s current training location in Sappada, opened up about a number of topics, talking of the new Milan that is to come, of his brother Simone’s Lazio and of his own team’s objectives for the season due to begin.
Coming from an incredible promotion from Lega Pro to Serie B, Inzaghi still insisted on stressing his team's need for humility: “We need to be humble and have no objectives other than that of remaining in Serie B - it’s a tough league with numerous good teams. Do we need new players…maybe from Lazio? They have many interesting prospects that might suit us, such as Rossi (1997) and Palombi (1996). Let’s see what they’ll decide.”
Joe Tacopina, Perinetti and Rogg observed Inzaghi’s boys from the stands, as well as Pippo’s dad, Giancarlo. Brother Simone was also expected in Sappada – Lazio is training only 30km away in Auronzo di Cadore – but did not make an appearance. The brothers, however, met only a few days ago in Auronzo: “Simone has done something extraordinary and I’ll hope he’ll keep it up – says Pippo – sure, he’s lost a key and irrepleacable player like Biglia. I hope that at least Keita will stay, which would be very important. Biglia and him are players who can make a real difference in Italy.” But Pippo has faith in his brother: “Simone is good and has a competent entourage. The club will provide him with the best possible squad”.
Speaking of which, Lazio have immediately filled the vacuum left by Biglia – Lucas Leiva is set to join the biancocelesti, subject to medicals: “He’s a quality player. He always played in Liverpool and might be an important element. Lucas (Biglia) is Argentina’s captain, sure, but I quite like Leiva”.
It would’ve been amusing to organise a friendly between Lazio and Venezia: “Yes it would’ve! I hope I’ll progress in the Coppa Italia and maybe play against my brother at the Olimpico”, hopes Inzaghi.
Finally, Inzaghi spoke of whether Milan could be a Scudetto contender: “Definitely yes, they’re now a contender. Well done to the rossoneri, Biglia and Bonucci are two elite signings. They were the best players on the market in their respective positions. Two huge signings”.
