Sampdoria contact Patrick Vieira for coaching job

Sampdoria have made contacts with Patrick Vieria, a surprise candidate to take over after Ranieri's departure. 

The idea for the former Serie A and Premier League midfielder after talks with Empoli's Dionisi remained stalled.

Empoli does not wish to let their coach leave for Sampdoria if the club does not approach them to find an agreement directly.

A meeting between Sampdoria and Vieira is expected next week to discuss the role.
