Roma, Di Francesco: "We must react better when things get difficult."
SPAL defeated Roma 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, a surprising result for the giallorossi. Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco spoke with Sky Sport after the match: "The squad had the game in hand, before their penalty SPAL never had a shot on goal. We began missing our quality. The goal changed the match. In the second half we were frenetic and played too hurried. Even at the end, when they were playing with 10 men, we started playing long and high balls, which didn't make sense to me, especially given the characteristics of the players we had on the pitch. This is something that drives me mad."
"We broke down after the goal we allowed, when we needed to continue playing instead. In that kind of moment, we cannot react that way at the first sight of difficulty. When things get challenging, we don't play our best and that cannot happen. We also have young players on our side and we cannot bring them up that way. This is much different than last year, when we played our best when things got difficult. I'm not saying that the players are distracted, but we must always stay level-headed. Fortunately on Tuesday, there's another match and we must play much better than we did in the second half."
"The play of Dzeko? He had good chances that he wasn't able to take advantage of. Today he wasn't able to score, he could have played better in the first half. I hope that he recovers soon, but we cannot base all of our fortunes on Dzeko, the entire team needs to work together."
