Osimhen leaning toward accepting Napoli offer: club to open talks with Lille
His trip to Naples last Tuesday, where he met coach Gennaro Gattuso, could have been just a taste of what the future holds for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. Napoli have in fact received positive signals after the player's meeting with president Aurelio De Laurentiis in Capri.
Osimhen flew back to France today together with his significant other and his agent. Now the ball is in Napoli's court: the Italian club and the player have not settled some details about the striker's wages (in the region of €2 million per year after taxes) and image rights (the player would have to rescind his contract with the current sponsor). The parties have not reached a final agreement yet, however there's optimism about the outcome of the deal.
As soon as an agreement with the player is reached, sporting director Giuntoli (who had already shown interest in the player three years ago before the Nigerian joined Wolfsburg) and Napoli will open talks with Lille, the Nigerian's current club. The relationship between the clubs is excellent, the fact that they couldn't finalise a deal for Pepé last summer hasn't impacted the existing relationship between Napoli and Lille.
The player's entourage hinted that the final greenlight could be given in the next few days as Osimhen, his agents and his family's first impressions of the club and the city have been more than positive, a step that was deemed essential in the path to a positive conclusion to the deal for Napoli.
