Modric, chess game between Inter and Real Madrid has begun: the latest

There is a nervous game with intense strategies taking place in Madrid for Luka Modric. Real Madrid and Florentino Perez are playing a precise game by taking their time. The face to face between Perez and Modric has still not been scheduled and the president has also postponed the meeting that was set to take place tomorrow. Today, however, has been a day of direct contact between the parties but Real Madrid are not breaking down their wall. Modric has also remained firm in his stance: he reiterated again today that he would like to join Inter.

Modric himself showed up at training today but is also playing his own chess match. It has been a delicate affair consisting of strategies since the talks began. The Croatian continues to train and act with the utmost professionalism, as he showed up to Valdebebas this evening and trained from 6:30-9:30pm local time. He is staying true to his character and also understands that holding out from training would break his relationship with Real Madrid and might become counterproductive.

Real Madrid continue to wait because they are hopeful that Modric will change his stance after meeting the coach, Lopetegui, and returning to the atmosphere with los blancos. Madrid are also buying time, however, so they can find a suitable replacement in the case that Modric really does not want to remain. They don't want to disappoint the supporters after already losing Zidane and Ronaldo this summer and Perez is surveying different options. Inter, meanwhile, continue to receive positive signals from the player. Modric has not yet changed his mind and is relying on the gentleman's agreement he has with Perez. Conversations between the parties are ongoing, even if the fixed meeting for tomorrow will not happen.

Inter will also be in Madrid for the friendly against Atletico Madrid, and will be able to use this time to talk to the player's agents. His agents have been in the city for two days now. There is no scheduled face to face meeting between Inter and Real Madrid, however, as the nerazzurri are waiting for Modric to 'free' himself. Florentino Perez's waiting game - which, as stated before, is being used to either convince Modric to stay or to find a suitable replacement - is making this drag out longer than expected. Real Madrid are playing a waiting game, Inter is hopeful but cautious, and the 'game' for Modric is open and underway.
