Juventus, Buffon: "I'll retire with serenity because I'm curious about life"
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was interviewed with two days prior to the penultimate Champions League group stage with Barcelona where he spoke about his future: "I will probably retire at the end of the year and I will calmly do so, I am very curious about life and therefore I am not scared about stopping. I have not taken into consideration of the thought of coaching. I wouldn't like the idea of being a puppet: if I am going a director, I will only do it when I am ready to do so. My favorite signer is Adriano Celentano and I was a member of a church choir. It is beautiful to say that. I played in midfield until I was 12, then I saw Cameroon goalkeeper Thomas N'Kono at the 1990 World Cup and I wanted to emulate him. My father told me that I was too skinny to play keeper. Other keepers that I liked were Zenga, Tacconi, Peruzzi, Toldo, Pagliuca and Marchegiani. No one talks about that style of goalkeeping anymore. I would be happy if one of my kids become a footballer. I am enjoying the last few years of my career as a goalkeeper because I am more aware and the 2006 World Cup will always be a beautiful memory. I imagine my last game will be like my first: full of enthusiasm and pride. Whoever will win the Champions League will be the team who will find themselves mentally and physically strong when March comes, hopefully it will be Juventus."
