Italia, Mancini gets contract extension through 2026

The announcement by FIGC President Gravina: "I am very happy, Mancini's renewal was an objective of the Federation to give continuity"

Roberto Mancini and the Italian national team together until 2026. The announcement was given by the president of the FIGC, Roberto Gravina, who has formalized the renewal of the coach until 2026 when it will be scheduled in North America.

"I am very happy because, as Roberto knows, the renewal was an objective of the Federation to give continuity to the work done - explained Gravina - Beyond the victory of a tournament, at the base there is a path and a project on which we must work. With Mancini I shared this project that he has been carrying out brilliantly for two years. Winning a trophy is a goal we must focus on, even if we don't have to bandage our heads if we don't succeed ".

A lot of joy also from Mancini: "I am very happy. It will not be easy to win, but we are carrying on a work started three years ago which, up to now, has given good results. We think we have put together an excellent team, but in these competitions, you also need a little luck ". After the growth, however, the goal is to win as pointed out by Mancini: "There would have been no reason to break up. The goal is to be able to win. Italy hasn't won the European Championship for twenty years, in a year there will be the World Cup and the Nations League as well. It would not have been right to leave and I think the president has the same idea. Verratti? We evaluate together every day. We are quite confident, but we hope to be able to recover everyone ".

Mancini has been in charge since 2018 and has led Italy in 30 games so far. The balance sheet is 21 wins, 7 draws, and 2 defeats. The national team has also been unbeaten since September 10th, 2018 when they lost 1-0 to Portugal in the Nations League. In the short term, there are three objectives: the first is the European. Then, subsequently, the Nations League final four and finally the qualification for the World Cup.
