Higuain announces his retirement from the Argentine national team: "My cycle is over, many will be happy..."

Gonzalo Higuain has announced his retirement from the Argentine national team in an interview with Fox Sport Argentina: "My cycle with the Argentine national team is over. Now I want to enjoy my life and my family. For the joy of many, my cycle is over. I spoke with Lionel Scaloni and gave him my point of view, the decision has been taken and it's what I think is the best thing for me."

Clear words from the 31-year-old, who made 75 appearances for Argentina scoring a total of 31 goals: "People remember the goals I missed and not the ones I scored. I'm sure everyone celebrated the goal against Belgium. When you criticise someone maliciously, it hurts everyone. I saw how much my family suffered, but I gave everything for the national team. It's one thing to say that the national team did not achieve our objectives, but when people talk about failure, it's very hard..."
