After a great season that got Spal to stay in Serie A, Alfred Gomis is preparing to give his best during the World Cup with Senegal. Growing up in Italy, he also feels a bit Italian: "I'll bring the Italian flag with me, proudly. I feel Italian because of my education and training. I've been here since I was three and I've played my first season in Serie A this year, avoiding relegation: it's been a dream!".

About his Senegal and his choice to play with the African side: "My roots are there, last year I've traveled to Senegal and I've seen all the places I used to go as a child. I've stopped by to see my grandmother who speaks a dialect I don't understand, my father died not long ago and I've been where he's buried. From that moment, I've decided to play for Senegal, to remember him. My brothers and me are goalkeepers to realize his dream".

Gomis has then talked about his teammates and his role inside the national team: "We're a very competitive squad, we've got Koulibaly who's one of the best defenders in the world like Maradona has said, then Liverpool's Manè, Keita... I don't know yet if I'll be the starting goalkeeper, I hope to be able to confirm during the next two friendlies all the good things I've done until now".

About Balotelli's captaincy: "To me, the captain must be the one who everyone listens to. I think it's a good idea to give Mario the armband, so that he could be aware to represent the whole Italy".
