Kevin Strootman made his priorities clear in his first press conferance as a Genoa player. Below are the player's key comments surrounding his arrival to the rossoblù club from Marseille.

"I wanted to get back to playing. I spoke with my agent and family, we wanted to go back to Italy. From the first moment that Genoa was interested, they did everything to sign me. Going to a league that you know on loan isn't easy, but I chose Serie A because I want to show that I'm still a player that can do something for the team."

"From the first moment, Genoa was interested. I spoke with the Sporting Director and President, I was convinced of my decision. I gave my word, for me it's like that. They were the first. It's a great challenge. Genoa isn't where they deserve to be. We have a great group and we want to do better in our current situation. Many teams are in difficulty and are close to us. If I can give that extra 1% to the team, I'm happy. We must bring Genoa where they belong."

"I didn't play many games last year, maybe I'm lacking a little bit of rhythm. But I always trained and I believe I'm ready to play. I must adapt a bit to the team, meet them, but physically I am well. I'll get back the rhythm of the game by playing."
