Genoa look to close deal for Vasquez from Pumas: the latest

Johan Vasquez's performances with Mexico at the Olympics garnered attention from clubs in Italy, in particular Genoa, who have also received a recommendation on the solid authority of Diego Milito.

The retired striker's opinions, reported by Mexican outlet am.com, was decisive for the club, who have decided to start contacts for Pumas' center back.

Genoa's interest is concrete and after contacts made during the day, the clubs are working on narrowing the difference between offer and ask. The deal could close for €3.5 million on a loan with obligation to buy.

During the Olympics, Vasquez played in all five matches with the U23 team, and also has had two appearances with the senior squad. He has made 75 appearances in Mexico for Pumas and Monterrey. There are other clubs in Europe looking for his signature, Genoa will hope to finalize the deal.

Genoa have also started negotiations for Shkodran Mustafi, 1992-born defender currently without a club. He would be returning to the city after playing for Sampdoria in 2014.
