French government announces Ligue 1 season will not be allowed to restart

France's top flight season has come to an end due to the coronavirus pandemic. The nation's Prime Minister Edouard Philippe confirmed Tuesday that "the 2019/20 season for professional sports, in particular football, cannot restart." The expected begin date for sports is slated for September. The French federation and the league body next must decide to restart the current season in the coming months or begin the new season directly.
