Chelsea legend Claude Makelele has recently left his role at the club as a technical mentor.

Makelele, who made 217 appearances for the Blues, returned to the club in August 2019 in an overseeing role, where he worked closely with individual academy players and players that were out on loan

The reason for his departure is understood to be by mutual decision

Earlier this month, the 50-year-old played in the Legends of Europe match at Stamford Bridge where heroes from different eras took on Bayern Munich Legends in memory of the late Gianluca Vialli. The Blues were victorious on the night winning 4-0.

It is said Makelele left Chelsea before the event took place.

Assistant coach Bruno Saltor has also departed Chelsea, despite the club announcing he would work within Mauricio Pochettino’s coaching staff.

Saltor was pictured on Chelsea’s pre-season tour in America, but is understood to have left the club shortly after the squad had completed their pre-season. The reason for Saltor’s departure remains unknown.

A host of changes have been made over the last twelve months at Chelsea, with the west London side also parting ways with techincal director Christopher Vivell at the end of last season.
