Chelsea, Conte: “Tottenham? From this point onwards, everyone will try to stop us”
After the victory against Stoke City, only four days until Chelsea and Antonio Conte would have to step back on the pitch for another battle, this time in one of the many London Derby’s, with Tottenham. If they were to win, Chelsea would snatch the record for most consecutive wins in Premier League history. Conte spoke ahead of the match:
“Thirteen victories in a row is a fantastic result, but I’d rather my players focus on winning for the three points and not for the streak. Matches like those with Tottenham are extremely motivating, but now every team we face will want to end the streak. I love times of the year where we’re extremely busy because we work a ton, and I have to admit we proved to have great fitness. In fact, there are no absences for tomorrow, even if David Luiz is still recovering from the injury against City”.
The man to hold on to in tough times seems to be Diego Costa. He went from an almost certain transfer, to becoming a pivotal player in this team: “When Diego Costa decided to stay, he told me he was determined to give it his all for Chelsea. It wasn’t easy for me at the start: When a coach changes country, he struggles using his own methodology.”
Finally, he mentions any possibility of using the January transfer window: “In terms of our game style, we can still improve. Obi Mikel’s future? I don’t have any updates. There could be some purchases this transfer window. Some parts of the roster can be strengthened, assuming we find the right players”.
