Barella continues to want Inter, thanks in part to the effort made by Antonio Conte to recruit him, and has not changed his plans. Despite comments from Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini, Barella's decision is crystal clear that he has decided on Inter:  "We've had an agreement with Inter on the fixed portion since 11 June. Only the bonuses were missing. Then they disapparered for 20 days. I didn't hear from Marotta. Now I have closed a deal with Roma: I accepted, the agreement is complete. Barella will decide, he has taken some time to think it over and then will declare what he wants. The player never had reached an agreement with Inter."

Roma know well that Barella has expressed his preference, but they like the idea of a move for the player. They had been speaking to Cagliari for other players when the opportunity arose, and they are ready to make a deal, at a fee that is more appealing than what Inter would offer. Roma continue to work on other fronts such as Veretout for the midfield. But Caglari are looking for the biggest payday for their young jewel, and will listen to every offer. But the decision made by Barella has not changed, he still prefers Inter by a wide margin.
